Title: Type B flying helmet
Abstract: A Type B flying helmet issued to Cameron Hill by the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War.
Item description: The flying helmet is made from brown leather panels that were sewn together. The helmet features two padded oval ear cups and a leather chinstrap sewn to the right side and secured by a buckle sewn to the left side. In addition, the back of the helmet has a vertical opening to the neck fitted with a horizontal adjustable leather strap. The interior of the helmet is lined with buff coloured chamois.
General note: The Type B flying helmet was commonly issued to aircrew in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). This style of helmet was likely modeled after the Type B flying helmet issued to aircrew in the Royal Air Force between 1936-1941.
