The girl is sitting on a wooden verandah which would be separated from the garden and street by a wooden door. Behind her is a house wall made of pieces of rice paper pasted on a bamboo frame. Its condition--patches and holes--indicate poverty. It is probably a farmer's house. See note re hair style photo 2."

The doll collection is being offered toys, saki and food on the bottom shelves. It would appear to be a wealthy household. The fish in the foreground would be made of sugar and would be eaten after the celebration. The long braid was worn only by younger girls."
