Royal Canadian Air Force jacket badge
A Royal Canadian Air Force jacket badge that was acquired by Cameron Hill during or after the Second World War. It was likely worn on the pocket of a personal jacket or similar garment.
The jacket badge features decoration on a black background including the Royal Canadian Air Force crest, motto, and service title as well as a Tudor style crown. The Royal Canadian Air Force crest depicts an eagle with outstretched wings in the centre of a red and white cloth roundel. The outer white portion of the roundel features the motto, "Per Ardua Ad Astra" (through adversity to the stars). This was the motto of the Royal Air Force that was adopted by the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1924. The service title appears below the roundel on a white scroll and is also inscribed in blue embroidery. A Tudor style crown appears above the roundel.
